  1. Thanksgiving. The encouraging response from overseas: Close to 100 overseas delegates from 15 countries have registered for the Conference (as of 16th Feb). The biggest contingent is from Philippines—over 30 have signed up. 19 Malaysians have also signed up.
  2. Singapore delegates: So far, only 9 Singaporeans have registered. Pray that many more can come so that our ties with the assemblies down south can be further strengthened through this Conference.
  3. Malaysian delegates: Pray that our assembly leaders will encourage many more of their members to attend this Conference. Pray for the CBSM Committee as they step up efforts to get more national delegates to attend the Conference.
  4. Youth Challenge: Pray for Dexter and team as they seek to publicise this to the youths in our country. The target is for 500 youths to attend this event on Saturday afternoon.
  5. Workshop speakers: Please pray earnestly as we need to find the right persons to lead the workshops on “Serving as a Professional Overseas” and “Disaster Relief” very soon!
  6. Visa application: Pray for delegates coming outside of Asean (India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Papua New Guinea) as they submit their visa application to enter Malaysia.
  7. Sponsorship: Robert Quay requests prayer that there will be sufficient funds for needy delegates to participate in the Conference. Also that wisdom may be given to the Committee to disburse the funds accordingly. So far, we praise God that we have been able to offer some form of financial assistance to almost 30 delegates.
  8. Home-stay: Tian Eng and See Yen have asked us to pray that more homes will be found quickly to house the sponsored delegates.
  9. Van drivers: Tian Eng has also requested prayers that drivers be found to drive the delegates to and from PJGH.
  10. Speakers and workshop leaders: Pray for them as they try to meet the deadline (Mar 8) to submit their papers to the Secretariat for compilation in the Conference file.
  11. Mobilizing our Youth for mission: We aim to challenge some 100 youths attending the Youth Challenge to sign up for short mission exposure trips to Indonesia, Philippines or Cambodia. We also want to challenge the younger generation to enrol in Project Paul.  Pray for the speaker, Andrew Cowell to speak powerfully to our youth.
  12. Working team leaders: pray for them as they seek to enrol as many people/volunteers in their team, and as they work out the many practical details necessary to ensure the smooth running of the Conference.
  13. Night sessions—pray for the Program Team as they firm up the details for the 3 night sessions which are open to the public.

Thought for the Week:

Mercy Compared to Forgiveness, Love, and Grace

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Matthew 5:7

To understand the significance of mercy, let’s compare it to three amazing attributes of God. First, mercy has much in common with forgiveness, although it is distinct from it. God’s forgiveness of our sins flow from His mercy. But mercy is greater than forgiveness, because God is merciful to us even when we do not sin, just as we can be merciful to those who have never done anything against us. God’s mercy does not just forgive our transgressions but reaches to all weaknesses and needs.

Just as forgiveness flows out of mercy, mercy flows out of love. “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (Eph.2:4-5). Love is greater than mercy – it can manifest itself even when there is no wrong to forgive or need to meet.

Finally, mercy is also related to grace, which flows out of love. Grace and mercy have the closest possible relationship, yet they are different. Mercy deals with the consequences of sin, while grace deals with sin itself. Mercy offers relief from punishment, grace offers pardon for the crime.

Just look at what the Good Samaritian did. When he found a Jewish traveler who had been robbed and beaten, he held no animosity toward him. Love motivated him to show the man mercy when he bound up his wounds. And when he took him to an inn and cared for him, he showed grace. Such is the expression of mercy working with forgiveness, love and grace.

Ask yourself: Is there someone to whom you need to show God’s mercy, expressed through your love, your grace, our forgiveness? Think of how you can turn your merciful intentions into practical action
